Withdrawn!

Finally. Now can I get a sexy supreme court justice? I mean, I'll settle for "qualified" as the main criteria, but as long as I'm going with wishful thinking...

On a side note, maybe this was intentional? I couldn't imagine why they'd (Bush administration) subject themselves to this, but on the other hand, now if they try to push one of their whacked out psycho crazy-ass right-wingers through, maybe the public will say, "at least she's qualified."

You really think that if Bush nominates someone as qualified as Miers - like say McConnell or Luttig or Garza or countless others - the public wouldn't look at them the same way as they looked at Roberts? Look, the left sites are already spinning this as a victory for the radical right - but a lot of people on the radical right supported Miers (Dobson, other evangelicals). I guess now the intellectual conservative movement is the "radical right." Oh well. At least you all got your talking points this morning.

  2. At least you got your head firmly lodged up your ass this morning.

Miers? Qualified? Good god man. This is the fucking Supreme Court, and Bush nominated someone who doesn't know shit about fuck! That's the problem. I'm not going to like any Bush nominee, but I'll at least expect one who is experienced, competent, and doesn't allow ideology to overwhelm his/her duty as a jurist.

It's been suggested many times before that Bush might deliberately nominate someone who had no chance of being confirmed so that the left would spend its political capital trashing the nominee, Bush and the right would take the apparent "moral high ground" and accuse the left of trashing decent people and letting interest groups run the country. The nominee would then get shamefully driven out and become a martyr... and then Bush would nominate his real first choice, who would (1) look better by comparison to the first nominee, and (2) make the Dems look obstinate and unreasonable if they pulled out all of the stops to oppose the second person.

If this is what Bush wanted to do with Miers, it seems to have backfired, because the loudest opposition came from his side of center.

I wonder if Bush is still under as much pressure as before to nominate a woman.

  4. I'm pretty certain the next nominee will be a woman.

Oh, and, self-call. I posted this within 2 minutes of AP getting it.

Whoops - in respect to my first comment, that was supposed to be as qualified as Roberts. So that just screwed up my whole comment... Miers was horribly unqualified, which is why she sucked and should never have been put up for the nomination...
